The Battleground:
The University of Mary Washington prides itself in providing an optimal environment for athletes to practice their craft. Battleground Outdoor Complex plays host to lacrosse, soccer, tennis, field hockey, track and field, baseball and softball, and is regarded as one of the finest facilities of its kind in Virginia.
"The Battleground" has hosted NCAA Division III Men's (1989, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2019, 2023, 2024) and Women's (1990, 1991, 1997, 1998, 2001) Soccer and Baseball (1992) Tournaments, and the 1992 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer, 1993 Field Hockey, 1997 Men's Soccer, 2006 Men's Tennis and 2007 and 2010 Women's Tennis National Championships.
Directions to the Battleground Athletic Complex (GPS Address is 1204 Hanover Street):
From Interstate 95, take Exit 130A (Route 3 East), and follow through five stoplights. At the sixth light, turn LEFT onto Business Route 3 (William Street). At the top of the hill, the road splits. Stay RIGHT, onto Hanover Street. The Battleground Athletic Complex is on the RIGHT.
From Anderson Center & Goolrick Hall to Battleground Athletic Complex:
Take a left on College Ave. out of Anderson Center lot. Follow College Ave. @ 1 mile to Hanover St. Take right on Hanover St. and follow to entrance to complex on left (@ ¼ mile). Take the complex drive road up to the Physical Plant at the top of the hill, you will see rugby field & track on your right. Park bus along curb area across from the loading dock. The field turf game field is on the other side of the track.
